The role of tourist boards in tourism is the promotion of tourist destinations. But the scope of the tourist boards' work is much greater and it also covers the management and development of tourist destinations. The enforcement of the new „Act of tourist boards and promotion of Croatian tourism“ will change the tourist boards' organization to DMO and in order to be more financially profitable some tourist boards will have to conjoin. Destination Management Organizations include external marketing activities and internal destination management activities, which means that the promotion and management of tourist destination development are the two most important activities of tourist boards. Each level of tourist boards system plays an important role in the promotion and development of the areas for which they were established. Also, each level of tourist boards system has two main sources of funding, which are the sojourn tax and membership fees based on which revenues are allocated. The case study analyzes the Tourist Board of Koprivnica and its activities as well as the potential for future development. The importance of partnering and the development of new tourists' products indicates the level of the role of tourist boards. With this intention, Croatian tourism can learn from valid examples of foreign practice so it can adapt to contemporary trends.
