Autistic disorder is a developmental disorder which begins in childhood and lasts the whole life extending to all psychological functions of the patient. The disorder was first described by Leo Kanner in 1943. Every child with autism is unique, but when making a diagnosis there are some common features like – lack of communication (verbal and non verbal), lack of social interaction, stereotypy, limited interests and activity. When working with these children special consideration of developmental DIR/Floortime model is needed. The founder of DIR/Floortime model is dr Stanley Greenspan. The Floortime implies involvement of the child in a way that all his functional – emotional developmental levels are stimulated at the same time up to the highest level the child is able to reach. The last part of the paper shows case analysis of a boy with autistic spectrum disorder. The course of his development is shown by monitoring the program of early intervention according to DIR/Floortime model in which the boy was involved since the diagnosis till he was seven. The whole and professional work is needed in order to help a person with autism as well as his/her family.
