The thesis ‘Development of geometrical concepts in kindergartens’ has elaborated the basic mathematical knowledge and elemental geometry with the emphasis on the fact that mathematics is everywhere around us and that it is necessary in everyday life. The paper is divided into 4 chapters that together form a whole and cover the theme ‘Development of geometrical concepts in kindergartens’. The first part of the paper covers the role of mathematics in pre-school education and the role of educators in the development of mathematical concepts. The second contains two lesson plans for independent work in kindergartens related to the acquisition of initial mathematical knowledge. The third part is based on the importance of playing in the development of basic mathematical precepts, and the fourth part part of the work is concerned with geometry in kindergartens. There have been attempts to answer various questions related to the basic topic. How to introduce a child to the world of mathematics and geometry; what the basic geometrical terms are, what kind of resources are used, what methods are most appropriate, and the like. Moreover, It also pointed out the importance of the educator’s role in the development of mathematical concepts, especially geometrical, with an emphasis on geometric figures and geometric shapes in kindergartens. The paper shows where and in what ways we present geometry to children to make it easier for them to understand and accept it.
