Abstract

With the advent of the Jesuits and the influence of Italian authors, enriched theDubrovnik stage. They introduced the special effects, costumes and, most importantly, music. New components in Dubrovnik Theatre is the emergence of melodrama and its impact on Gundulića. His entire oeuvre is basedon the translation of the librettos of Italian’s authors and his dramas. His melodramas helped him to build himself as a poet, to become agile and to write his Dubravka, which is extremely important for the understanding the political situation in Dubrovnik during Gundulić’s life.
