Abstract (english) Foreign direct investment is, by definition, an investment where a foreign investor, i.e., a non-resident, acquires assets in another country, i.e., the country of residence, with the intention of managing it. They can be classified according to different criteria, but the most famous are greenfield investments because they bring the most benefits to the destination country. The subject of this paper is foreign direct investment in Serbia. The paper analyzes the trends of foreign direct investment in Serbia from 2010 to 2020. The conducted analysis determined that the inflows of foreign direct investments coming to Serbia are large, and that it is the largest recipient of foreign direct investments in the region. During these periods, Serbia received a total of $ 31.34 billion in foreign investment, while in 2020 it generated an inflow of $ 3.44 billion. The countries that invest the most in Serbia during all these periods are Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and Austria. Since 2013, they have been joined by the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and China. The most invested activities from 2010 to 2020 are mining, manufacturing, construction, trade, transport, financial activities and real estate, i.e., secondary and tertiary sectors are in the lead. According to a review of scientific research, economists agreed that foreign direct investment does not greatly affect Serbia's economic growth. There is also insufficient domestic investment as shown by the emergence of the Covid 19 pandemic when foreign investment declines. If it wants to boost its country's economic growth and sustainability, Serbia should also turn to domestic investment.
