Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
People enjoyed swimming even in ancient history. Swimming techniques have developed in accordance with new understandings in observing swimming. Body position and work of arms and legs have changed the most. When children learn how to swim, it is important for them to adjust to the water because only after they overcome their fear, they will be able to acquire new knowledge and skills in the water. In order to acquire swimming training successfully, non-swimmer needs to adjust to the new environment, learn how to float, take a horizontal position, slide through water, improve breathing in the water and later learn how to jump and do turns in the water. Swimming techniques imply moving in water with a predefined goal and a moving structure. Freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly are techniques used in official swimming competitions. Croatian swimming federation is responsible for swimming in Croatia. FINA is the international organization for water sports. Parents play an important role in a child's life. They should be supportive and motivate the children in their work and sports activities. Swimming, as all the other sports can, have a positive impact on the child's growth and development.
