Abstract Jedinice za jednodnevnu kirurgiju podrazumijevaju način rada koji omogućuje brzo, efektivno i financijski učinkovito zbrinjavanje pacijenata pridonoseći na taj način boljem funkcioniranju sveukupne bolnice u kojoj se nalazi, a samim time i cjelokupnog zdravstvenog sustava.
Abstract (english) One-day surgery units include a way of surgery that enables the fast, effiecient and cost-effective care of patients, thus contributing to a better functioning of the overall hospital and therefore the entire health system. The fundamental reasons for application in practice are achievements in medical technology, advances in anesthesia and pain control that allow the effective application of this modality of care, which results in a reduced indication for hospitalizations and reduces the waiting lists. The highest level of success is achieved through the application of international clinical guidelines, which include health status assessment methods, assessing the circumstances and informing patients and their parents/ caregivers. After completion of preparation, the patient must be medically fit for surgery and fully informed about all aspects of one-day surgery, have knowledge that allows acceptance of surgical and anesthesiological techniques, as well as knowledge about the organization of work in the ward immediately before and after surgery, as well as all possible complications. The nurses and technicians interventions during this period are extensive and they are of great importance for successful treatment. The aim of the paper is to raise awareness of the importance of quality and complete preparation, i.e. to ensure the reduction of all possible risks and to emphasize the importance of educating the patient and his family. The aim is also to encourage awareness of the continuous maintenance of good, thorough communication between patients and healthcare professionals. Materials and methods: systematic review of literature, search of scientific portals and journals, such as PubMed and Hrčak, their comparison, observation of outpatients and analysis of existing medical records through 2020-2021. Targeted and continuous modern education of nurses and research of patient access modalities serves to raise one-day surgery in the Republic of Croatia to a higher qualitative level and thus enable the improvement of the knowledge and skills of both doctors and nurses/technicians.
