Social networks have become a powerful medium that is growing rapidly day by day and have become an indispensable part of the life of the wider population. The frequency of using social networks is constantly increasing in all age groups. The first part of this thesis provides information about the concept of social networks, the history of their creation and the most popular networks today. The second part of this thesis talks about Internet addiction, safety and protection of children on the Internet, and parental supervision, given that children and adolescents represent the largest number of Internet users. In the third part of the paper, the focus is on the survey and conducted research on the use of social networks. The research was conducted with the help of a survey questionnaire created for the needs of this thesis, and 51 respondents participated in it. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 19 questions about the habits and activities of using social networks. The aim of this research was to examine whether respondents use social networks and how much time they spend on them, what they use them for, most often, and to determine whether they think they are addicted to the use of social networks and that they need a break from them. The obtained data are presented in tables and explained.
