Abstract | Ovaj rad analizira trenutno stanje obrazovanja o okolišu u kurikulumu obrazovnih institucija, s fokusom na pripremu budućih odgojitelja i učitelja. |
Abstract (english) | This paper examines the current state of environmental education within the curriculum of educational institutions, with a focus on preparing future educators and teachers. Through a review of literature and research, it identifies key factors that shape effective environmental education, including teaching methods, interdisciplinary approaches, collaborative learning, and the integration of sustainability throughout all aspects of the teaching process. The study's objectives are to assess environmental risks related to ecological issues, explore environmental sensitivity, identify sources of information from which students receive environmental knowledge, and determine the level of environmental awareness in society. It also aims to evaluate the impact of environmental education both within and outside the school environment. A survey was conducted among 119 students majoring in Teacher Education and Early Childhood Education. Hypotheses were formulated and confirmed, indicating that students possess a high awareness of environmental problems, with environmental pollution being recognized as a significant challenge in nature conservation. The majority of students emphasize the importance of education and raising awareness as fundamental tools in addressing environmental issues. Respondents stressed that environmental education should commence in early childhood and continue throughout schooling to cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious and responsible citizens. The research also revealed that students primarily acquire environmental information from schools and educational institutions, contrary to expectations that the media plays a crucial role in shaping environmental awareness. Simultaneously, the analysis of results showed variability in the perception of environmental awareness among different age groups and respondent categories, underscoring the need for targeted environmental education programs to support younger generations in developing heightened environmental values and enhance awareness among older generations. In conclusion, based on the analysis of survey results, this study emphasizes the vital role of environmental education in developing awareness, respect for nature, and understanding of ecological issues. High average values for all three assertions indicate a positive attitude towards environmental education. These findings highlight the need for continued investment in environmental education, starting from preschool and persisting throughout formal education, to foster a generation of informed decision-makers committed to preserving the environment for a better future on our planet. |
