Agriculture is the oldest human activity. The first agricultural crops in Istria (7th century) were cereals, olives and vines. An important role for the improvement of agriculture is played by programs for the development of agriculture in the County of Istria. During the past years, significant cooperation has been achieved with various institutions and agencies in Istria and abroad, and thus a number of significant projects have been realized. There is a growing emphasis on organic farming and production. It has a dual role, supplying the market according to consumer demands for organic products and contributing to environmental protection, animal welfare and rural development. The arrival of an increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists in the rural parts of Istria has stimulated the development of rural economies. The rural part of Istria is rich in accommodation in idyllic villages that exude silence and natural beauty, with a rich gastronomic offer of local products. These same domestic products try to be included in the tourist offer as much as possible in order to increase their consumption, as well as their recognizability.
