Abstract Ovaj završni rad ispituje razinu medijske pismenosti novinara lokalne televizije TV Nova. Prije svega, govori o važnosti medija i visokom novinarskom obrazovanju djelatnika u medijima. Mnogobrojni medijski pedagozi i komunikolozi ističu važnost poznavanja medijske pismenosti jer jedino na taj način možemo javnosti prenijeti istine, pravovaljane, pravodobne i točne informacije.
Abstract (english) This paper examines the level of media literacy of journalists of local television station „TV Nova“. Primarily, it talks about the importance of media and high journalism education of media workers. Respondents were local television journalists, therefore the paper explains the development of television, the emergence of broadcasters as well as the differences between global and local television stations. Compared to other countries in Europe, Croatia has a small number of journalists with a journalism faculty, although in recent years a number of journalism education institutions increased. Therefore arises the question can everyone be the journalist? This paper describes how journalists should know legal regulations, objectively transfer information to citizens and to be well acquainted with the concept of media literacy. Numerous media pedagogues and communicologists emphasize the importance of understanding media literacy, because only in this way we can convey the truth, valid, timely and accurate information to the public. The paper says that to become high-quality journalistic personnel it is necessary to be educated at the faculty of journalism, because working in the media without the diploma and professional expertise, journalist can become a misinformer and thus reduce his value in the society. In the end, we analyzed the responses of six subjects who do not have a degree in journalism and perform their work in the media for over ten years. Working in the media for so long have acquired them a lot of practice, therefore to certain questions they gave high-quality answers. On the other hand, responds to sets of questions which referred to technology development, production ability and knowledge of social networks were negative which indicated that they are mediocre media literate.
