Abstract
Web poslužitelj je softverska aplikacija koja odgovara na zahtjeve sa WWW-a putem HTTP-a protokola koji funkcionira na aplikacijskoj razini OSI modela za distribuciju web stranica klijentima, i to putem web pregledika na javnoj ili privatnoj mreži. Klijent je taj koji inicira komunikaciju sa web poslužiteljem, i to tako da mu šalje zahtjev za određenim resursima putem TCP protokola. Poslužitelj odgovara na isti zahtjev tako da klijentu šalje zatraženi sadržaj, ili poruku o pogrešci, ako je do nje došlo. Teoretski gledano, svaki uređaj može postati web poslužitelj. Na primjer, softver web poslužitelja se može instalirati na normalno računalo kako bi korisnici mogli lokalno testirati skup stranica ili dobili pristup svojim dokumentima od drugih klijenata domaćina - kako u lokalnoj mreži, tako i putem interneta.
Abstract (english)
A web server is a software application that responds to requests from the WWW via the HTTP protocol that operates at the application level of the OSI model for distributing web pages to clients, via the web browsing on a public or private network. The client is the one who initiates communication with the web server, by sending him a request for certain resources via the TCP protocol. The server responds to the same request by sending the requested content to the client, or an error message, if any. Theoretically, any device can become a web server. For example, web server software can be installed on a normal computer so that users can test a set of sites locally or gain access to their documents from other host clients - both on the local network and online.
