The topics covered in this thesis concern the general concept of project, project methods, project life cycle and project complexity. The focus is placed on the project manager and his roles, significance and responsibility are delineated. Also, when writing this thesis, the subject of characteristics a certain person should have as a project manager is specifically touched upon, and they show different variations of selecting a project manager for a project. Likewise, there is a review of the maturity stages of project managers and the skills a certain person should possess in order to be a project manager of great quality. At the end of the graduation thesis, the results of the conducted survey on the topic "What do you think about the roles and skills of project managers and what should they possess?" are presented. The aforementioned survey research was conducted among students of economics majors in the cities of Pula, Rijeka and Zagreb.
