At first glance, clothing and children's novels are two incompatible categories, but both components share the same characteristic – they are reflecting the social climate of a particular period. Through this final work, an attempt was made to provide an insight into the historical overview of the Croatian children's novel as the most represented genre of children's literature based on selected examples of novels. Final work looks at Croatian children's novels from different literary and historical periods: Čudnovate zgode šegrta Hlapića by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, Vlak u snijegu, Družba Pere Kvržice and Anka Brazilijanka by Mate Lovrak, Tiki traži neznanca by Milivoj Matošec, Zvižduk s Bukovca by Zvonimir Milčec, Vanda by Silvija Šesto Stipančić, Poljubit ću je uskoro, možda by Šime Storić and Fora je biti faca, zar ne? by Sanja Pilić. With a chronological insight into the development of Croatian children's novels, along with the characteristics of each period, the emphasis is placed on the changes that have taken place in the world of fashion. Depicting the dressing of characters on specific examples of novels, at the same time, it is possible to follow different variants of clothing combinations that are completely different in the period of traditional Croatian novels and in the period of contemporary Croatian novels. This has shown that clothing as a feature in contemporary children's novels, in parallel with the development of novels, is beginning to be used for different purposes in relation to older children's novels. It can be seen that, in addition to being a mirror of history, clothing often serves as an element to deal with different issues and topics in different period and space.
